The second Supersport on Emil Weber’s team will remain unridden at the Öhlins IDM race on the first weekend of September. The team boss had been hoping for a guest appearance by Randy Krummenacher. But the 2019 Supersport will stay home in Italy, his adopted country.
Ever since 16-year-old racer Valentino Herrlich left the Kawasaki Weber Racing team two weeks ago, just before the races in Assen, team boss Emil Weber has been searching for an expert to help move the IDM project—which has been progressing very slowly—forward. Instead of putting another young rider on the now-vacant Ninja ZX-6R, Weber was hoping to pair his regular rider, Luca Göttlicher, with an experienced rider whom he could look up to.
A vertebral fracture knocked Krummenacher out
That’s not going to happen, at least not at the Nürburgring. Weber contacted his Swiss compatriot Randy Krummenacher, but the 35-year-old Supersport turned him down. “We were in talks because we’ve known each other for years, and Emil has always stood by me and supported me. The IDM race would have been tempting, but I’m injured and won’t get the go-ahead,” explains the father of three.
Krummi began his second full season in the World Endurance Championship in 2025. He races for the EWC team Tati AVA6 Racing on a Honda CBR 1000 RR-R. During practice ahead of the Spa 8-Hour race, the former Grand Prix rider suffered a serious crash. He fractured his sixth vertebra. As a result, Krummenacher has been undergoing a lengthy recovery process since early June.
“We’re focusing 100 percent on Luca at the Nürburgring,” Weber said. “Most recently, at Assen, he achieved his best result of the season so far. There’s definitely more to come.”
