IDM SBK: Florian Alt Is Going All In

He’s far from giving up on the title—in fact, he’s going all out. IDM Superbike rider Florian Alt is looking forward to his home race at the Öhlins IDM event at the Nürburgring on the first weekend in September. Anyone who wants to see the only Honda rider in the top class in action before then can do so on September 30 at the Honda Motorcycle Day in Erlensee.

With two rounds remaining, Florian Alt (Holzhauer Racing Promotion) trails championship leader Lukas Tulovic (Triple M Racing Ducati Frankfurt) by fifteen points in the overall standings. There are still 100 points up for grabs by the end of the season, so anything is possible for both riders. The title race is currently playing out exclusively between the two Germans. “I’ll do everything in our power,” says Alt, who is absolutely determined to bring the title back to the Honda camp after a one-year hiatus. However, in the last four races, he hasn’t had a chance to attack and make up ground right from the first corner. There’s only one thing he can do to challenge his main rival on the Ducati: “Brake even later.”

One more day for the vote

“I think it’s great that we can practice at the Nürburgring as early as Thursday instead of waiting until Friday,” adds the Engelskirch native, “because that gives us more opportunities to get to know the track and fine-tune the motorcycle.”

The 29-year-old recently spent six days in Sweden. “It did me a world of good—the peace and quiet, the seclusion. I didn’t do anything except train on my bike and go jogging.” By his side: his wife Kimberly, whom he married at the beginning of the year.

Tomorrow, Saturday, August 30, Alt will first take the wheel of an MSX 125 Grom at the Honda Motorcycle Day in Erlensee. Five teams will compete in a two-hour race, including IDM riders Dirk Geiger and Julius Caesar Rörig. From pros to influencers, everyone will be represented at the Honda Academy.
