When someone goes on a trip, they’ll have stories to tell. That’s certainly true of Thomas Eder. The Bavarian from the IDM Supersport series even Supersport the help of his competitors when he wants to reach the finish line.
It’s pretty common for the white truck with the orange lettering from the Eder Racing Team to show up ahead of the Koflers as they’re heading to the various race tracks. The Kofler family then briefly taps the brakes in their RV, and as they pass by, there’s a flurry of waving and flashing headlights at their finest. And just like that, the Koflers are gone again.
On the way to Oschersleben, Eder was especially eager to see the Austrians. “An hour after we passed him, my phone rang,” reports IDM Supersport Andreas Kofler, “Tom was near Hof in Bavaria and asked which one of us had a commercial driver’s license. The police had just taken his away because it had expired six days earlier.”
Since virtually everyone in the Kofler family has a commercial driver’s license, the choice fell on Maximilian Kofler. The superbiker doubles over with laughter as he recounts: “I set off later than the others, ran into Tom, and then drove his truck from Hof to Oschersleben—but it was my very first time driving a truck, even though I’d passed the test four years ago.” It gets even better: “Back in the paddock, I texted Tom first to ask about the points. I think I got one. I drove on the left side in the construction zone.”
