During the first qualifying session of the newly introduced Sportbike class of the International German Motorcycle Championship (IDM) in Oschersleben on Saturday morning, it wasn’t a favorite who came out on top, but a 17-year-old rookie from Austria who immediately got the crowd’s hearts racing: Luis Rammerstorfer, an IDM newcomer and rider for Team Freudenberg Rora-Paligo Racing, immediately set the fastest lap time—securing pole position on his very first IDM weekend. “To be honest, I didn’t expect this at all,” Rammerstorfer admitted in astonishment after the second qualifying session. “We just wanted to get our feet wet—and now we’re already right at the front.” Team boss Carsten Freudenberg was also thrilled: “Of course we’re more than satisfied with the result—that’s for sure. But we’re staying realistic—it’s Luis’s first race in this class and his debut year in the IDM, and the competition is strong. A top-5 finish in the race would be a huge success for us.”

Alongside Rammerstorfer, two top-tier riders with World Championship experience are waiting in the wings: Oliver Svendsen (Triumph Germany Racing Team) and Petr Svoboda (WRP Racing). Both have already established themselves as key players in the Supersport —and bring not only experience but also racing speed to the starting grid.
While Svendsen set the bar high in the first qualifying session with a time of 1:31.742 minutes, he used Q2 primarily for strategic purposes—conserving tires and focusing on the race. Svoboda also expressed confidence: “The Aprilia feels strong. The bike’s power and size suit me very well. I’m ready.”

The second row of the grid also promises to be exciting. Justin Hänse (Motorradtke GYTR by Penz13), a two-time Twin Cup winner, will start from fourth place. Sven Seidler (ViVa by Peuker & Streeb), at 29 the oldest rider in the class and usually more at home in endurance racing, secured fifth on the grid. Korbinian Brandl (AK Racing) rounds out the second row. The 18-year-old is already well-known from the IDM Supersport —and will certainly try to apply his experience to the new class.

The first race in this new IDM class will be streamed live at www.idm.de/live and will take place this Saturday at 3:20 p.m. The second race will follow on Sunday at 12:15 p.m.
