It was the best possible preparation for him. IDM returnee Melvin van der Voort competed in Supersport at the TT Circuit Assen in the run-up to the IDM season, which begins on May 9, 2025, in Oschersleben.

After a year in Spain, Melvin van der Voort is returning to the paddock of the International German Motorcycle Championship (IDM). His move to the Spanish championship and a few Supersport didn’t bring him any luck last year. In the IDM, the long-haired Dutchman now has only one goal: to become champion, just as he did two years ago. Back then, he had fought a fierce title battle with his compatriot Twan Smits, who has now moved up to the Superbike class. That is no relief for van der Voort. The IDM Supersport a shark tank, now teeming with young riders such as Dirk Geiger, Lennox Lehmann, and Luca Göttlicher. Not to mention defending champion Andreas Kofler.

At Supersport in Assen, van der Voort pulled out all the stops as a warm-up for the IDM. The Ducati rider from Ede, who races for the Track & Trades Wixx Racing Team, took to the track on a wildcard. The result: 19th place in the first race, followed by technical issues and a retirement in the second.

Van der Voort battled it out with his World Championship rivals in both races and didn’t shy away from any confrontation. He posted consistent lap times and said afterward, “I’ll take this experience with me into the IDM season.”
