The wait is over. In just a few months, the season opener of the International German Motorcycle Championship (IDM) will take place at the Motorsport Arena in Oschersleben. Whether you’re a rising star or a seasoned veteran, anyone who wants to compete in the top series and earn points can register now.
The procedure is the same for everyone. Go to the homepage at www.idm.de, click on the “Participant Info” button, and you’re all set. This link applies to all participants in the IDM Superbike, Supersport Sportbike classes, as well as to all participants in the support classes held as part of the IDM.
Want to race in every event, or get a taste of the IDM with the right license and see how well you can keep up? There are two types of registration: either as a permanent rider or as a guest starter. Permanent registration is valid for the entire 2025 season, and the participant is eligible for points. The other option involves a guest starter permit. This allows participation in a maximum of three events, and riders do not receive championship points.
To participate in the 2025 season races, riders must hold an internationally valid license from the DMSB (Deutscher Motor Sport Bund e.V.) or an internationally valid license issued by their home federation, along with a foreign racing permit. More and more riders from around the world are viewing the IDM series as a platform to establish themselves nationally or lay the groundwork for a future career. The technical regulations in German are also available on the IDM website as of today, January 29, 2025. The English versions will follow in a few days.
Who will succeed Ilya Mikhalchik as champion in the prestigious IDM Superbike series? Who will be battling for the title in the Supersport? And how will the new IDM Sportbike series get off to a start? There’s excitement in the air when IDM Series Manager Normann Broy says: “More and more motorcycle brands are participating in the IDM, and we see this as a sign of the appeal of investing in our top series. Having participants who race at the World Championship level adds an extra thrill. And even if some spectators are surprised—yes, the IDM remains very close to its fan base. Anyone who buys a ticket to an event also gets free access to the paddock.”
