As previously announced, the new sportbike class in the International German Motorcycle Championship will replace the current IDM Supersport class in 2025. Triumph is now the first manufacturer to offer a race-ready motorcycle based on the new Daytona 660. The Triumph Germany Supersport Team, led by Lothar Kraus, plans to field two young riders in the Sportbike class in 2025.
A full year before its debut in the Motorcycle World Championship, the new class will be on the starting grid at all 2025 IDM events. It is set to receive official recognition. In 2026, the format will also be introduced as part of the World Superbike events.
This class has already been introduced in the British BSB series. Triumph won the title. Here in Germany, too, the first teams are banking on the best-selling Triumph Daytona 660 and have ordered their first motorcycles to test them in Spain this winter. All race bikes are manufactured and delivered by Triumph Emsland, a company within the Hertrampf Group.
“The fully assembled race cars in the base version (excluding chassis modifications and gear ratio kit) cost 21,000.00 euros plus VAT,” says Denis Hertrampf, who adds: “Once an order is received, it takes about four weeks for delivery. We expect to be able to reduce the delivery time to 14 days by the end of the year. The motorcycles are ready to ride upon pickup and come equipped with race electronics, an exhaust system, racing fairings, and everything else needed. Only new vehicles are used for the build.”
The base version is primarily aimed at racing teams that want flexibility in terms of suspension components and gear ratios. Amateur drivers also have the option of ordering a fully race-ready Pro version with suspension optimizations, gear ratios, and other features.
According to Hertrampf, the in-house Triumph Germany Supersport Team is in no rush when it comes to finalizing its lineup for 2025. The team is currently in talks with several riders. Among others, a number of up-and-coming talents from the 300cc class have expressed interest, including IDM Juniors from last season. The lineup is expected to be finalized by the end of the year.
