Jan Mohr will never forget July 24, 2022. The 26-year-old Austrian from the Champion Alpha Van Zon BMW Team was involved in a serious collision during the first IDM Superbike race at the Schleizer Dreieck, an accident in which Toni Finsterbusch (GERT56) was caught up through no fault of his own. Both riders sustained severe injuries but fought their way back into racing. Jan Mohr, along with his brother Ken—who is three years his junior—has documented his own comeback journey in a video. The film goes live on YouTube today.

“For a long time, I wasn’t sure if I’d ever be able to continue,” says Mohr, a native of Hohenems, reflecting on that period. He had crashed into a stack of tires at full speed in Schleiz, fracturing one thoracic vertebra and cracking two others. He also suffered a fracture of his left ankle. “We documented the entire period from the hospital until my return—from walking on crutches all the way to the removal of the two rods and 12 screws that had been in my back for half a year.” Jan Mohr raced again for the first time last year at the Red Bull Ring. Ken captured it all. He had actually planned a guest start in the Yamaha R7 Cup, but because he’d broken his collarbone two weeks earlier, that plan fell through. Instead, he ran back and forth filming his brother, edited the footage, and put the finishing touches on it. Ken is studying animation and visual effects at the Prague School of Creative Communication.

At 22:56, viewers are immersed in the world of racing. It shows that even an accident can’t slow down someone who has racing in their blood—with all its highs and lows.
