Not much happened today at the Nürburgring. Instead of sunshine, the International German Motorcycle Championship (IDM) in the Eifel region was greeted by a thick wall of fog. Very little racing took place. In the IDM Supersport , six riders Supersport laps during free practice. Eder Racing welcomed a newcomer, Kilian Holzer, who is standing in for team boss Thomas Eder on the Yamaha.

Eighteen-year-old Austrian Kilian Holzer traveled to the Nürburgring as a guest rider and had hoped for different weather conditions for his IDM Supersport. But during the brief window of time he was on the track, the track was still wet. Holzer crashed immediately. It was only on Monday that he had received a call from Thomas “Tom” Eder offering him the chance to fill in for the Bavarian at the Nürburgring. Eder is suffering from back pain and is currently having a very hard time riding his motorcycle. In Eder’s opinion, Holzer has a lot of talent, so the Bavarian let him use his practice bike. The two know each other from various events at racetracks.

At the Nürburgring, however, even the teenager is still feeling the aftereffects of his last races. The right side of his body, above the hip, keeps acting up, but Holzer is tough. Last year, the Zillertal native broke his spine twice. But each time, the racing bug won out and drove him back onto the track. Motorcycles have been a part of his life for as long as he can remember. “We really wanted to compete in the IDM, and we accepted Tom Eder’s invitation right away,” says Holzer, who won an NTC race at the Red Bull Ring two years ago, is now competing in the Spanish Supersport, and has come to Germany with his father, Klaus.

What’s next after the Nürburgring? “Sure, I’d love to race in the finale at Hockenheim, too,” Holzer admits, but he knows: “Tom Eder will be handling that himself again. That’s understandable for the finale. Other than that, we’ve actually been talking openly about putting something together next year. I like the team. If something comes up, I wouldn’t say no.”
