IDM SSP 300: Phillip Tonn erkämpft ersten Saisonsieg

Philip Tonn entschied mit einem Fotofinish das erste Rennen der IDM Supersport 300 in Assen für sich. Dylan Czarkowski arbeitete sich nach einem Sturz auf Platz vier zurück.

Philip Tonn (Freudenberg KTM-Paligo Racing) was out to prove himself this Saturday in Assen: Could he hold his own against his teammates and rivals, or not? Yes, he could. He proved it in the first race on Saturday with a stellar performance.

The weekend didn’t start smoothly for Tonn, with two crashes during practice. But the 18-year-old refused to let those earlier setbacks get him down today, showing an aggressive and motivated performance in the first race. He battled his teammates Ruben Bijman and Oliver Svendsen all the way to the finish line, ultimately securing his first win of the season by a margin of 0.023 seconds. “That was a great race,” Tonn said before the podium ceremony, struggling to find the right words to express his joy.

Ruben Bijman finished second. The pole-sitter, who had clearly dominated in practice, was unable to open up the gap he had hoped for during the race, as he had planned. “Tomorrow is a new day with another race. Maybe things will go better then,” said Bijman, who had lined up at Assen with several injuries and freshly stitched wounds following his crash in both World Championship races at Portimao last weekend. With his second-place finish, the Dutchman was at least able to cut the gap to championship leader Oliver Svendsen by four points; Svendsen finished third, 0.072 seconds behind Bijman.

Dylan Czarkowski (DC Racing) also had an impressive race with its share of ups and downs. The Yamaha rider got off to a poor start, then drifted wide due to a riding error and went off the track. While trying to close the gap to the leading group, he eventually went down over the front wheel. But Czarkowski didn’t give up; instead, he picked his bike back up and resumed his chase. Starting from ninth place, he fought his way forward lap by lap and finished the race in a strong fourth place.

Senna van den Hooven (Molenaar Racing) and Fabio Sarasino (Freudenberg KTM-Paligo Racing) engaged in a thrilling battle, with Van den Hooven ultimately emerging victorious. The Dutch rider secured fifth place, while Sarasino finished sixth.

The second race will take place on Sunday at 2:50 p.m. Fans can watch for free via the live stream at www.idm.de/live to see if Ruben Bijman can come out on top.
