The weather in Schleiz on qualifying Saturday didn’t turn out the way the weather apps had predicted. Instead of a sunny 23 degrees, it had been raining since early morning. Wet and challenging track conditions were ultimately the reason why only four riders took to the track and completed their laps in the first Supersport qualifying session of the International German Motorcycle Championship (IDM). Senna van den Hoven (Molenaar Racing) ultimately set the fastest time with a lap of 1:47.716.
In the second practice session around noon, track conditions were mixed. Some riders took to the track on rain tires, while others opted for slicks. Among them was Dutch rider Dylan Czarklowski (Racing DC), who had already proven at the season opener at the Sachsenring that he handles wet tracks well. On his final attempt as the clock ran out, the Yamaha rider clocked a 1:40.714 to set the fastest lap time he had hoped for, securing pole position for the upcoming races. “I knew I was very fast in the first corner, which is why I just braked a little less there on the last lap,” Czarkowski reported, visibly satisfied, in the parc fermé. With a lead of just under half a second, he snagged the top spot ahead of the KTM armada, consisting of Oliver Svendsen, Ruben Bijman, Fabio Sarasino, and Philipp Tonn (all Freudenberg KTM-Paligo Racing). The latter stuck with rain tires during the Q2 decision and thus lost over a second to the leader, Czarkowski.
The first race takes place this Saturday at 4:15 p.m. The second race continues on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. Viewers can follow the action via the free IDM stream at www.idm.de/live.
