After a thrilling race, Markus Schlosser and Luca Schmidt emerged as the winners of the sprint race. Harry Payne and Kevin Rousseau had to settle for second place despite their elbow-to-elbow defensive maneuvers.

Markus Schlosser (Team Schlosser/LCR Yamaha) got off to a perfect start from pole position in the sprint race of the FIM/IDM Sidecar World Championship in Most. But his joy was short-lived, as Harry Payne and Kevin Rousseau (Steinhausen Racing / ARS Yamaha) launched an attack just seconds later in the very first chicane and overtook Schlosser on the outside. The Brit made short work of the competition and sped away in the blink of an eye. But the Swiss rider and his passenger, Luca Schmidt, remained tenacious and gradually closed the gap on Payne.

On the eighth of ten laps, Schlosser launched his first passing move, but Payne successfully countered it. From that point on, the Brit was on his guard and started driving aggressively, but Schlosser wasn’t fazed. On the penultimate lap, he tried again. Once again, Payne responded with a counter-move, which wasn’t without some contact. Schlosser, however, managed to fight his way through and took the lead, which he held onto until the checkered flag.

“That was a really good race, especially for me,” said Markus Schlosser afterward, who had spent every spare minute over the past few weeks working on his sidecar to bring it up to speed. “The work paid off—we’re really fast now,” added Luca Schmidt. With their second win of the season, they have regained the lead in the World Championship.

Sam and Tom Christie (Hannafin/LCR Yamaha), on the other hand, had a rather lonely race. “A few mistakes at the start and some gear-shifting problems caused us to lose ground, so we couldn’t keep up with Schlosser,” Tom Christie said, describing the early stages of the race. As the race progressed, however, they found their rhythm and rounded out the podium with a third-place finish.

Todd Ellis and Emmanuelle Clement (Team Ellis/Clement Racing/LCR Yamaha) ultimately secured fourth place. Last year’s world champions didn’t get off to a good start, but fought their way past rivals one by one, including Pekka Päivärinta and Adam Christie (Hänni Racing/ARS Yamaha) as well as Bennie Streuer and Kevin Kölsch (Team Streuer/ARS Yamaha). The latter, however, were racing with a heavily damaged fender following a minor collision in the first corner after the start. They finished the race in sixth place, ahead of Ted and Vincent Peugeot (Seventy Four Racing Team/LCR Yamaha). The father-son duo thus emerged victorious in the IDM standings for the second time.

FIM/IDM Sidecar: Schlosser Bites His Way to Second Victory

After a thrilling race, Markus Schlosser and Luca Schmidt emerged victorious from the sprint race. Harry Payne and Kevin Rousseau had to settle for second place despite an elbow defense maneuver.

But his joy was short-lived, as Harry Payne and Kevin Rousseau (Steinhausen Racing / ARS Yamaha) attacked in the first chicane and overtook Schlosser on the outside within seconds. The Brit made short work of it and sped away at lightning speed. But the Swiss rider and his co-driver, Luca Schmidt, persisted and gradually pulled away from Payne.

On the eighth of ten laps, Schlosser launched his first passing attempt, which Payne successfully countered. From that point on, the Briton was on his guard and started using his elbows, but Schlosser wasn’t impressed. He tried again on the penultimate lap. Payne once again responded with a counter-move, which involved some contact. However, Schlosser knew how to push through and took the lead, which he held onto until the checkered flag.

“That was a really good race, especially for me,” said Markus Schlosser afterward, who has devoted every spare minute to his team in recent weeks to get it up to speed. “The work has paid off; we’re really fast now,” added Luca Schmidt. With their second win of the season, they have reclaimed the lead in the world championship.

Sam and Tom Christie (Hannafin/LCR Yamaha), on the other hand, had a rather lonely race. “A few mistakes at the start and some gear-shifting problems meant that we lost ground and were therefore unable to keep up with Schlosser,” said Tom Christie, describing the early stages of the race. However, they found their rhythm as the race progressed and finished third on the podium.

Todd Ellis and Emmanuelle Clement (Team Ellis/Clement Racing/LCR Yamaha) ultimately finished in fourth place. Last year’s world champions did not get off to a good start, but fought their way past opponents such as Pekka Päivärinta and Adam Christie (Hänni Racing/ARS Yamaha) and Bennie Streuer and Kevin Kölsch (Team Streuer/ARS Yamaha) one after another. However, the latter duo rode with a badly damaged mudguard after colliding with Lukas Wyssen and Ema Salmon (Team Gustoil Sidecar Racing/LCR Yamaha) shortly after the start. They finished the race in sixth place, ahead of Ted and Vincent Peugeot (Seventy Four Racing Team/LCR Yamaha). The father-son duo thus emerged victorious in the IDM standings for the second time.
