After a seven-month hiatus, the wait is finally over. The young guns of the Supersport 300 class in the International German Motorcycle Championship (IDM) are ready to race again, and the first pole position has been claimed.
Jeffrey Buis (Freudenberg KTM-Paligo Racing) set the fastest lap time in Q2. He didn’t have to wait long for it. “I was able to set the fastest time right on the first lap of qualifying—that was a bull’s-eye,” the reigning Supersport 300 World Champion said with satisfaction about his performance. The 22-year-old Dutchman had struggled with a rough start, however. Things hadn’t gone quite so smoothly for him the day before. “I struggled a bit with the track yesterday.” The last time he was at the Sachsenring was seven years ago, Buis reported. He needed a little time to get used to the circuit’s ups and downs again.
Close on Buis’s heels was his compatriot Loris Veneman (MTM Kawasaki). The guest rider finished just 0.219 seconds behind, securing second place on the grid. He is followed by Ruben Bijman, Oliver Svendsen, and Phillip Tonn—the KTM contingent from the KTM Paligo-Racing Freudenberg team. While Tonn emerged from qualifying somewhat disappointed, Oliver Svendsen looked forward to the first race with motivation, saying: “I’ll only be satisfied with my performance if I’m on the podium today.” The first race of the IDM Supersport 300 takes place at 3:30 p.m.
The two Dutch drivers, Dylan Czarkowski (Racing DC) and Senna van den Hoven (Molenaar Racing), along with Swiss driver Fabio Sarasino, who is also racing for the Freudenberg team this season, secured starting positions six through eight.
Niklas Böhlen (Blau Power Bikes) is another Swiss driver starting from ninth place. German driver Korbinian Brandl (RBR Racing) rounds out the top 10. Newcomer Emil Tägtlund (Tägtlund Motorsport) from Sweden qualified in 11th place, followed by Denmark’s Ty Henriksen (Henriksen Racing).
If you want to watch the races live from the comfort of your own sofa, you can do so via the IDM stream at www.idm.de. The first FIM Sidecar race starts at 2:45 p.m.
