Sad news from the Netherlands. Evert Blom has died. The owner of Team Apreco passed away on March 17, 2024, after a battle with cancer. He was 69 years old.

Evert Blom was a fixture in the International German Motorcycle Championship (IDM) and always put his heart and soul into the sport. The dynamic owner of the Apreco team from Culemborg led his crew with unwavering passion and was particularly dedicated to helping young riders reach the top. Blom recognized the talent in his own country and showed an unbridled commitment to helping them reach their full potential.

With the support of Ten Kate Racing Products and Yamaha Europe’s Benelux branch, the ambitious Blom succeeded in establishing a successful team in his own way.

Vasco van der Valk, Nick Roelfsema, Joep Overbeeke, Senna van de Hoven, Kas Beekmans, and Twan Smits are just a few of the names associated with Evert Blom in both the IDM Supersport 300 and the higher-level IDM Supersport. In 2023, Twan Smits alone secured four victories on a Yamaha in the IDM Supersport class and, most importantly, the runner-up title for Team Apreco. By that point, Blom was already battling cancer, but he continued to fight as he always had, aiming to remain competitive in 2024 and finally clinch the title with Twan Smits.

The season is already well underway, but Evert Blom will no longer be part of it. 2023 was supposed to be his final season. After his health deteriorated rapidly over the past two weeks, Blom passed away last Sunday. The IDM bids farewell to a passionate and deeply human sportsman who never sought the limelight but was a true character.
