Just two weeks ago, Mitja Borgelt (Yamaha bLU cRU IDM by Kiefer Racing) had the external fixator removed from his leg. On Friday at Hockenheim, after a two-month break, he completed his first laps in free practice without any pain. This was undoubtedly the most important thing for him. “It was so much fun to finally be back on the bike,” said Borgelt after the first two free practice sessions. However, he isn’t entirely satisfied with Friday’s results yet, “but for now, it’s important to get back into the swing of things,” Borgelt continued. In the paddock, the 14-year-old can still be seen on crutches, though “they’re only there to help protect my leg and not put too much strain on it,” says the Yamaha rider.
Mitja Borgelt is set to head to Portugal next week. That’s where the R3 European SuperFinale will take place as part of the World Superbike Championship, featuring riders from the Yamaha bLUcRU Cup around the world—and Mitja Borgelt is the only German rider to have been invited.
