Ilya Mikhalchik is already a three-time champion in the IDM Superbike series, and theoretically, the Ukrainian still has a chance to win a fourth title ahead of the grand finale at Hockenheim. What happens after that?
Ilya Mikhalchik (BCC ALPHA VAN ZON BMW RACING) trails championship leader Florian Alt on Honda by 36 points. The 27-year-old Ukrainian is second in the overall standings. At the Hockenheim finale from September 22–24, 2023, two Superbike races will be held, with 25 points awarded to the winner of each race.
Regardless, his team boss and manager, Werner Daemen, has long been busy behind the scenes preparing for next year. “We’ll be signing various riders for the IDM again. Alongside the BSB, it’s the second-highest racing class in Europe. Ilyas’s main job remains in the Endurance World Championship, where he’s a BMW factory rider and where the riders can earn money. At the same time, these guys should stay in the IDM, because that’s how they stay fast,” he hints. The final decision, however, will be coordinated with BMW Motorrad Motorsport.
