IDM SSP300: Statement by Motor Presse Stuttgart

During lap four of Race 2 of the IDM Supersport 300 class at the Red Bull Ring, riders #93 Walid Khan and #53 Petr Svoboda were in the leading group and were riding side by side on the start-finish straight. As they approached the Red Bull Bridge, the two riders came into close contact. From the live broadcast perspective, a hand gesture by rider #93 Walid Khan toward rider #53 Petr Svoboda can be seen.

After Race Control analyzed the available video footage from various camera angles, the race officials determined that the hand gesture made by driver #93 Walid Khan was not intended to influence driver #53 Petr Svoboda’s braking. The footage shows that the two drivers made contact and that driver #93 Walid Khan made a hand gesture, which is interpreted as a signal for driver #53 Petr Svoboda to give him space, as the track width is limited by the safety line of the pit wall.

Based on these findings, race control did not take any further action on site and communicated this decision accordingly. After the race, driver #53 Petr Svoboda and his team chose not to file a protest against race control’s decision.
