A serious accident occurred during the main IDM Sidecar race at the Schleizer Dreieck last weekend. The race was stopped. It is currently unclear whether the Bonovo action teams involved—Josef Sattler and Luca Schmidt, as well as Lennard Göttlich and Lucas Krieg—will be able to compete at the Red Bull Ring in two weeks.

Göttlich and Krieg led the field in Sunday’s main race, closely followed by Sattler and Schmidt. But on the twelfth lap, both teams skidded on an oil spill. Göttlich and Krieg spun out violently; Krieg was thrown from the saddle and suffered an open fracture to his right hand. Göttlich escaped with a scare.
Sattler and Schmidt even rolled over and also ended up in the hospital. Both had to stay overnight for observation. Sattler suffered a concussion.

Jürgen Röder, owner of the Bonovo Action Team, says: “Lucas Krieg suffered a serious hand injury and underwent surgery last night. No one knows yet when he’ll be able to return to action. We’re staying in touch. Lennard went to see Lucas again today and will stay with him until he’s discharged from the hospital, which we hope will happen later this week. Luca Schmidt complained of severe back pain, which ultimately turned out to be severe bruising. Sepp Sattler suffered a severe concussion after hitting his head hard. But he, too, is on the mend. It’s still unclear to what extent both of them will be able to compete at the Red Bull Ring.
On top of all these health issues, Sepp’s sidecar is completely destroyed—it’s literally a total wreck—while Lennard’s sidecar didn’t sustain any serious damage. Whether we’ll be able to compete in Austria will become clear over the course of this week or next.”
