IDM Sidecar: Sattler Wins, Göttlich Delights His Mother

The sidecar championship sprint race at the International German Motorcycle Championship (IDM) in Schleiz ultimately saw Josef Sattler and Luca Schmidt (Bonovo Action Team/LCR Yamaha) emerge as the winners. The duo had previously secured pole position for the race in qualifying and confidently held the lead from start to finish. “We’re completely satisfied with our performance this weekend and are thrilled to have won in front of such a large crowd,” said Josef Sattler after the race. However, he added that he was curious to see how tomorrow’s race would unfold, as Vincent and Ted Peugeot had shown strong form today.
The French father-son duo finished in second place after battling it out for a long time with Enrico Wirth and Werner Leon Lüttke (Zweirad Wirth/LCR Yamaha). Peugeot attempted to pass several times, but Wirth skillfully fended off the attacks and closed the doors. Finally, the French duo managed to pass on lap seven, and from that point on, they were unstoppable. “Our start didn’t go so well, which is why we dropped back one spot. But we were able to gradually work our way up, and we’re happy with this second-place finish,” summarized Vincent Peugeot. Unlike his father, who has raced at the Schleizer Dreieck several times in the past, this was the first time for his son Vincent.

Despite initial difficulties with the track—which, according to Lennard Göttlich, he just couldn’t get a feel for—the Göttlich/Krieg duo secured third place. The young sidecar team (Team Bonovo Action Team/LCR Yamaha) also managed to pass the guest riders Wirth/Lüttke on the penultimate lap, bringing particular joy to a certain someone. “I needed a birthday present for my mom, so a podium finish today was a must,” Lennard Göttlich explained with a wink.
