When Florian Alt heads to Schleiz for the IDM this coming weekend, it’s like coming home to a second home. But he’s actually looking for a place of his own near Engelskirchen, as he shares with us in a very personal interview.
Engelskirchen is the town with the Christmas post office where children send their wish lists and letters to the Christ Child. With nearly 150,000 letters from over 50 different countries, Engelskirchen is the most popular address for the Christ Child in Germany. The letters are also answered. Florian Alt lives in this idyllic setting with his girlfriend Kim. Now the two are looking for a house. The IDM Superbike leader is getting serious. They’re looking to move not far away, but in the direction of Cologne. Alt is ready for a place of his own; they’ve already viewed the first few properties. “I wouldn’t have thought it possible, but I’ve actually managed to mow the lawn twice in a row now,” says the Honda rider, who is enjoying it and wants to get into a routine.
Before heading to the Schleizer Dreieck, where his girlfriend’s family lives, he gives the lawn one last trim. A little engine noise is a must. Alt hasn’t ridden his HRP Honda since the races in Most. “But I was invited to a very interesting meeting of my French endurance team, where every tenth of a second from the race at Spa was analyzed. And other than that, I’ve been doing a lot of sports.”
