What do motorcycle racing and pole dancing have in common? The answer is Adela Ourednickova. The Czech rider from the capital city of Prague is competing in the IDM Supersport for the first time this year. Along with the experienced German rider Lucy Michel, she is one of only two women in the junior class this season. The upcoming race weekend in Most is a home race for her. We wanted to learn more about the 17-year-old Kawasaki rider—and also about her unusual second hobby.

IDM: Adela, not only are you passionate about motorcycle racing, but you’ve also taken up pole dancing as a hobby. Do you think this sport helps you in your racing career?

Adela Ourednickova: Pole dancing definitely helps me with my motorcycle riding, too. It strengthens my whole body and lets me take a mental break after strenuous motorcycle training sessions. I think it’s important to have other interests and hobbies that take my mind off things and offer a nice change of pace. Pole dancing fits the bill perfectly.

IDM: How did you get into pole dancing in the first place, and how long have you been doing it?

Adela Ourednickova: I’ve been pole dancing for five years now. I started back then with a few friends, just to try something new. I really love riding motorcycles, but I’m also a young woman, and I just have so much fun moving in a feminine way. I love being active and am always looking for other athletic activities besides racing that I simply enjoy.

IDM: Who or what got you into motorcycle racing?
Adela Ourednickova: My father is a racer himself, and he was the one who first put me on a motorcycle when I was a child. It was through him that I eventually got into racing. I was always totally fascinated by the idea of distinguishing myself and proving myself as a young woman in this sport. After all, racing isn’t exactly accessible to everyone. It’s physically and mentally demanding and also requires financial resources. I’ve always been absolutely passionate about this sport!

IDM: Do you still remember the first time you rode on a race track?
Adela Ourednickova: My first time on a race track was on a minibike at the MMČR. I was only 12 years old at the time, and although my exact memories are fading, I still remember that I was nervous but highly motivated and really wanted to pass someone (laughs).

IDM: What made you decide to participate in the IDM?

Adela Ourednickova: I competed in the IDM for the first time last year in Most, and I loved the experience. The IDM is a high-level racing series where I get to compete against very talented riders. It gives me the opportunity to learn from them and improve my skills.

IDM: What are your goals for this year in the IDM and in motorcycle racing in general?

Adela Ourednickova: I have high expectations for my first year in the IDM. I hope to gain a lot of experience and improve my performance. My goal for the 2023 IDM is to score points and compete in the midfield. I definitely want to keep improving in the IDM, but I also want to compete with the girls in the Women’s European Championship. I see a good chance of finishing in the top 10 there.
