Marco Fetz will miss the upcoming races in the IDM Superbike series. The Bavarian rider crashed yesterday during the second qualifying session at the Motorsport Arena, forcing the session to be cut short with a red flag. As it turned out later that evening after he received medical attention, Fetz fractured his fifth thoracic vertebra. “The good news is that it’s not completely broken,” says the 23-year-old BMW rider from MF-Racing powered by Jung.
His great anticipation for the IDM races and the planned World Endurance Championship race at Spa was followed by a major disappointment. Fetz continues to be plagued by injuries. He will be allowed to leave the hospital in Neindorf, a neighborhood of Oschersleben, where he is currently staying, in the next three to four days. Doctors have estimated that his injury will take two to three months to heal.
