These are special times for FÜSPORT – RT Motorsports by SKM – Kawasaki, as in addition to leading the Supersport 300 World Championship with Petr Svoboda, the team is now also at the top of the International German Motorcycle Championship (IDM) standings alongside Inigo Iglesias. Team boss Rob Vennegoor is overwhelmed and hopes things will continue this way, but the next event is going to be stressful.
Spain's Inigo Iglesias made his IDM debut last Saturday at the Sachsenring with a fourth-place finish, after receiving a double long-lap penalty for a false start. The new team member bounced back on Sunday and won the second race of the weekend. He now leads the championship with 38 points, ahead of the two Germans Dustin Schneider and Lennox Lehmann, who have 35 and 29 points, respectively.
World Championship leader Petr Svoboda also competed in the races, finishing third on Saturday and fifth on Sunday.
Team manager Rob Vennegoor is over the moon: “Rob Vennegoor: ‘Being at the top in both the IDM Supersport 300 and the WorldSSP300 is something you sometimes dream of. When it becomes a reality, it’s something truly special. So we’ll do everything we can to hold onto this position.’” The team faces not only a sporting challenge but also a logistical one. The next IDM weekend takes place June 2–4 in Oschersleben. That same weekend, the WorldSSP300 is on the schedule in Misano, Italy. FÜSPORT – RT Motorsports by SKM – Kawasaki will then be juggling two top contenders across two series.
