After more than a year out due to injury, Marco Fetz is returning to the International German Motorcycle Championship (IDM). His return to the Wilbers team was planned, but following the latest developments, the team has decided to call it quits as a racing team for the time being. What now?

"My leg is okay. I'm not 100% fit yet, but I'm at a good level. There's still a little more to go, but I can already do everything again, from MTB training to pit bike riding," says the Bavarian from Kleinbreitenbronn. On August 1, 2021, he was involved in an accident in Assen that resulted in a broken thigh. Fetz underwent surgery in the Netherlands. The muscle, which was also severely damaged, made healing complicated. The recovery process proved to be tough, and Fetz would never have believed that it would take so long. The Wilbers team stood behind him the whole time, even though he missed the entire 2022 season, and did not give away his rider's seat. The team's announcement in December that it was withdrawing from the IDM Superbike came as a surprise to the 22-year-old. He will have to find new ways to return to the premier class.

"We're trying to put together our own team," says the ambitious BMW rider. He approached teams to ask if he could ride for them, but received one rejection after another. "Now it looks like I'll be staying with BMW in 2023. It will probably come down to us purchasing my Wilbers motorcycle."

In January, Fetz wants to check out all the places that could support him. He wants to compete in the IDM Superbike. Nothing else is an option. He is also looking into the World Endurance Championship. Perhaps he will manage to fulfill a lifelong dream by participating in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Marco Fetz is back and wants to be stronger than before. On January 11, 2023, he will celebrate his 23rd birthday and the world will be his oyster.
