It has been a very, very long time since a Spaniard competed regularly in the International German Motorcycle Championship (IDM). Do you remember Julian Mazuecos? In 2009, the then 26-year-old from Madrid raced for Werner Daemen’s Superbike team. In 2014, there was even an IDM Superbike champion on a Ducati: Xavi Fores. That was followed by a long hiatus.
In 2023, the Spaniard Inigo Iglesias enters the picture. He has secured a spot with Füsport-RT Motorsports by SKM-Kawasaki and will compete in the IDM Supersport 300 as a teammate of Max Zachmann and Petr Svoboda.
The Spanish are a force to be reckoned with in motorcycle racing. Over a period of nearly 30 years, 18 Spanish motorcycle racers alone have racked up a total of 500 podium finishes in the 500cc premier class and the subsequent MotoGP World Championship. And the next generation of talent is already waiting in the wings. Inigo Iglesias is no stranger to the scene either. He was born on April 9, 2002, and is considered a highly talented racer with great potential. In the Supersport 300 World Championship, he has secured four podium finishes over the past two years. While a victory has eluded him so far, he finished the World Championship in the top ten in both 2022 and 2021.
For the Kawasaki Ninja 400 rider, joining the IDM marks the start of a new adventure. Although most of the tracks are new to him, the title is his goal—just as Marvin Siebdrath demonstrated this year on the same team. Team manager Rob Vennegoor is optimistic about the new addition: “We’re starting this partnership with big ambitions and certainly don’t want to limit our focus to just the upcoming season!”
