After six years in the IDM Supersport 300 class, Troy Beinlich has managed to convince his father, Knut, that he is now better suited to the higher Supersport class. His efforts to persuade him are paying off.
“After racing a 600cc Yamaha in the German Endurance Cup at Most and Oschersleben, my dad said I should go for it,” says the 20-year-old from Pößneck, laughing: “But he would have liked to see me stay on the Kawasaki Ninja 400 in the lower class a little longer.” The Team Roto-Store BRT Vitori rider had his most successful season in 2017, when he secured three wins in the then-new junior league and finished third in the standings. In 2022, he finished ninth overall.
Troy wants to move up to a higher class, with more displacement and more speed. The condition for moving up has been met. “The prerequisite was that I sell the Kawasaki. It worked out. The bike is gone. A rider from the Yamaha R3 Cup bought it and plans to use it to move up to the IDM.”
So in 2023, Troy will be racing in the same class where his brother Christoph, who is seven years older, has long been a regular. Does this mean there will be competition from within the team? “I’ve never raced in the same class as him before,” the Supersport rookie reveals, adding, “I think it’s more of an incentive. Chris actually thinks it’s really good, because then we’ll have even more data that can help us move forward.” Troy will take over his brother’s current bike, while a brand-new one is being built for his brother.
And there’s one thing that’s important to Troy Beinlich: “What I’m most looking forward to is racing against Micky Winkler again. He’s a close friend of mine—we work out together and hang out in our free time. But first, Micky needs to find someone to remove the nail from his thigh. It’s been stuck there since 2019.”
