“What you hold deep in your heart cannot be lost through death,” reads the obituary from the parents and sister of the late Leon Langstädtler. The 24-year-old IDM Superbike rider was killed in an accident on September 23, 2022, during the second free practice session at the finale of the International German Motorcycle Championship at the Hockenheimring. Despite the intensive efforts of the medical team, he succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Sports were Leon Langstädtler’s life, and the IDM Superbike was his passion. As runner-up in the Pro Superstock Cup, he had moved up to Germany’s top racing class. He took it very seriously. Whenever a race weekend was coming up, he would prepare at home by eating a healthy diet of salad and drinking water. Leon was fit and in great shape.
His sister Jessica, who most recently competed in the Twin Cup, was always by his side. The two couldn't have been more different
She, the sister who was four years older and only 1.58 meters tall, was the voice of her towering brother, who was rather quiet and reserved and always had a friendly smile on his face. The lively Jessica and the reserved Leon complemented each other perfectly.
The fact that they are siblings was evident from the outfits they wore as teammates on the F3 Academy/Werk 2 Racing Team by MCA.
The designs of their leather suits were similar; only the colors were different. Leon’s suit was blue, and Jessica’s was pink. Their father, Martin Jung, had always made their racing possible and encouraged them. He was a rock and, as team manager, stood behind his children, who could always count on his support. For Leon, nothing was more important than racing. At the Red Bull Ring, he achieved his best result of the year with an eleventh-place finish in the second race.
The fatal accident on September 23 changed everything. And yet Leon still had so much he wanted to do. After completing his apprenticeship as a roofer, he had joined his father’s company. He was right in the thick of business life and was supposed to take over the company in the coming months. He had also planned to run in the Frankfurt Marathon on October 30. That won’t happen now, but many people can look to Leon Langstädtler as an example. Everything he accomplished by the age of 24 deserves the utmost respect.
The memorial service for Leon Langstädtler and the funeral will take place on October 15 at 9:00 a.m. at the Weilrod Forest Cemetery. Further information can be found in the obituary. (AWI)
