Andreas Kofler (Kawasaki Schnock Team Motorex) had more or less taken himself out of contention with his retirement in the first race. Melvin van der Voort (Team SWPN) catapulted himself into the role of favorite with his victory in the first race. Luca de Vleeschauwer (Kawasaki Weber-Motos Racing) had come to Hockenheim with the plan to defend his second-place overall position. But after the second race, nothing was the same as before.

Van der Voort stormed to his second victory of the day. De Vleeschauwer crashed on the fourth lap, effectively handing van der Voort the runner-up title. De Vleeschauwer wasn’t going to let that get him down so easily. He got the Kawasaki back on the track, because as long as the race wasn’t over, he wasn’t done yet. But when the Belgian crashed for the second time, he was able to put the matter behind him. He finished third in the final standings, and Andreas Kofler fourth. The Austrian knows his way around the end of the start-finish straight at Hockenheim well and was able to pull ahead of Milan Merckelbagh shortly before the finish; Merckelbagh finished third in the second race and ensured an all-Dutch podium at the end of the day, in which Twan Smits (Team Apreco) also played a role. Kofler, on the other hand, remained in seventh place, but he was at least the first Kawasaki rider to place a ZX-6R among the Yamaha riders.
