This is his third championship title in the Supersport class. Max Enderlein won his titles in 2018, 2019, and 2022—always on a Yamaha. The 25-year-old from Saxony has remained realistic about his prospects. But he does have one wish: to move up to the IDM Superbike series.
Congratulations on winning the championship. How do you feel?
“I’ve had an incredible week. First, I turned in my master’s thesis, which I’d been working on for about six months. Shortly after that, we clinched the championship early. It’s been a week to remember…”
What was going through your mind as you crossed the finish line?
“It really was a huge weight off my shoulders, because I was having trouble with a slipping clutch and I was starting to think the race was going to be a total bust. Luckily, things turned out differently.”
Did you hold back at the Red Bull Ring?
“I didn’t take many risks in the battles, that’s true.”
You started your own team. Have your expectations been met?
“The last two years with my own team have been really great. This year, we’ve improved significantly as a team both on and off the track and have grown closer together. We’ve managed to become the most successful Yamaha team in the current IDM season. When I compare our budget to other teams in IDM Supersport and Superbike, with all due respect, I often find it hard to hide my grin. We can be incredibly proud of that. Many thanks to Jan-Ole’s and my parents, William, Christian, and Markus, as well as our supporters and sponsors.”
The former champion, Patrick Hobelsberger, has moved up to the Supersport World Championship. How are things going for you?
“To be honest, I don’t really know what’s next for me. I’ll be starting my career in consulting in October, and right now I can’t even estimate how much time I’ll have left for motorcycling next year. I admit that I’d love to ride a Superbike then, since it suits my riding style much better than the smaller bike. For financial reasons, following in the footsteps of “Pax” Hobelsberger remains nothing more than a pipe dream for me. But also the
"For me, competing in the Superbike class is only possible with the support of a manufacturer or a team."
You're in Norway right now. What are you doing there?
"Before the IDM finale in Hockenheim, I went on vacation with my girlfriend. The scenery in Norway is incredibly beautiful and peaceful."
