Four laps had been completed, and Melvin van der Voort (Team SWPN) was in the lead ahead of Andreas Kofler (Kawasaki Schnock Team Motorex) and Patrick Hobelsberger when the red flag was waved: the race was stopped. At the end of the start-finish straight, Micky Winkler had failed to turn into the first corner; instead, due to brake problems, he had continued straight ahead and crashed over the barrier. The 20-year-old rider from Kawasaki Weber-Motos Racing received medical attention. According to his team manager Emil Weber, he suffered a concussion and a knee injury.
The race was restarted and shortened to six laps. This time, Kofler shot to the front like a bolt of lightning, but was caught just as quickly by van der Voort. Title favorite Max Enderlein (M32 Racing), who had already secured the IDM crown, held back. Since he had already been missing from the leading group in the first attempt, it was expected that he would be seen further up the field after the restart, but nothing of the sort happened. He emerged in eighth place. Hobelsberger was able to take the lead on the third lap, but couldn’t simply pull away as he had in the first race that morning. A mere 0.329 seconds separated the winner from the runner-up after six laps. But that wasn’t Melvin van der Voort. The Dutchman had to let his compatriot Twan Smits pass, who had steadily worked his way up through the field.
Enderlein, meanwhile, closed the gap inch by inch on Luca de Vleeschauwer, the only rival who could prevent him from winning the title. The Saxon, however, played it safe and didn’t seriously challenge the Belgian, who finished one spot ahead of him. His head had prevailed over his racing heart, leading Enderlein to the third IDM Supersport title of his career. Lukas “Trauti” Trautmann, finishing seventh, had watched it all unfold from the back of the pack.
