Kawasaki is bolstering its title defense with another rider: Team Füsport – RT Motorsports by SKM – Kawasaki has signed its World Championship rider Dirk Geiger as a regular rider in the IDM for the race weekend in Spielberg. The Mannheim native was already brought in as reinforcement for his team at Assen and promptly won both races. However, since he competed as a guest rider, Geiger did not earn any points.

That’s set to change now. “Dirk did a great job at Assen, which is why we’re now doing everything we can to win the championship this year,” says Frank Krekeler, team manager of Füsport – RT Motorsports by SKM – Kawasaki. However, Geiger isn’t just expected to score points for the team; he’s also tasked with supporting his teammate and current second-place rider Marvin Siebdrath. Just a single point separates him from championship leader Leo Rammerstorfer (Freudenberg KTM – Paligo Racing), who is racing at his home track, the Red Bull Ring. So the showdown isn’t just Austria versus Germany, but also Kawasaki versus KTM.
