Constant rain in the morning and a cloudy sky turned the first qualifying session of the IDM Sidecar class in Most on Saturday into a tire lottery. Although the rain had stopped by the time practice began, semi-dry track conditions are more of a curse than a blessing for many riders.
Tim Reeves and Kevin Rousseau (Bonovo Action Team/Adolf RS F1, 600 cc) were best able to brave the weather. With a lap time of 1:43.705, the multiple world champion set the bar highest. Even Josef Sattler was unable to match that. Although Sattler and his co-driver Luca Schmidt (Bonovo Action Team/Adolf RS F1, 600 cc) put in one strong lap after another, they couldn’t catch up to the two leaders. In the end, a margin of 0.8 seconds decided who would start from pole position and who would start in second place.
Peter Kimeswenger and Ondřej Sedláček (MRSC Gunskirchen SRT#11/ LCR Yamaha) managed to move up one spot in qualifying despite the mixed track conditions and will start Saturday evening’s sprint race in third place, followed by Max Zimmermann and Ronja Mahl (Team Zimmermann/ Adolf RS), who also moved up one spot.
Markus Schwegler and Ondrej Kopecky (Motorsport Königswartha e.V./LCR Yamaha) will start from fifth position. In Friday’s free practice, the pair fared much better than in qualifying, finishing third. This may have been due to an incorrect tire choice: they were the only sidecar team to take to the track on intermediate tires.
Junior sidecar rider Lennard Göttlich and Uwe Neubert (Bonovo Action Team/Adolf RS F1, 600 cc) will start from sixth position.
The IDM Sidecar sprint race will take place this Saturday at 5:30 p.m. All fans of sidecars can watch the race live via the IDM’s free streaming service.
