IDM SSP 300: Is this Siebdrath's last chance at the title?

For Marvin Siebdrath, that means the path to his first championship title is clear, right? “The biggest challenge for me this year will be competing against the KTM trio,” the runner-up sums up. With Scott Deroue, Leo Rammerstorfer, and Walid Khan, the Freudenberg-Paligo Racing team is fielding three strong riders who will fight for every victory and the championship—both as a team and individually. “That’s why my focus is on getting the absolute maximum out of every race,” says the rider from Wildenfels.

He already managed to do it at the season opener at the Lausitzring. After two disastrous free practice sessions, he seemed to have found the right setup during the warm-up before the first race. The result: one bronze and one gold. At the end of the weekend, he left the Lausitzring with 41 points as the championship leader. “That was really a surprise, since things were anything but good at the start and the track doesn’t really suit me very well,” he reports. It was a good start to the season that gave him courage, motivation, and self-confidence. “But I’m aware that things probably won’t go this well for us every weekend,” the high school student continues, who is currently in the middle of his final exams.

After finishing school, Siebdrath will begin a dual degree program in electrical engineering—that much is certain. Whether and how he will be able to continue racing in the IDM remains to be seen. He would, of course, remain loyal to racing, albeit more as a supporter for his younger brother Mika Siebdrath (12), who is currently embarking on his motorcycle racing career in the Spanish Championship (CEV). Because, like his older brother, he too would rather become a motorcycle racer than a firefighter.
