Marvin Siebdrath (Füsport – RT Motorsports by SKM – Kawasaki) had actually planned to hold back a bit in the second race of the IDM Supersport at the Lausitzring and let his rivals take the lead. But what else could he do but throw his original strategy out the window and take the lead when the right setup, riding feel, and speed all came together perfectly? And so he battled his own teammate, Jorke Erwig, and KTM rider Scott Deroue (Freudenberg KTM – Paligo Racing) for the gold trophy. The final three laps turned into a nail-biting thriller with constantly shifting positions in the leading group. In the end, a photo finish decided the outcome: Marvin Siebdrath is the winner. “I really can’t complain today,” says Siebdrath. “I’d actually come up with a different plan beforehand for how to race, but in this class you just have to be spontaneous,” continued last year’s runner-up, who racked up a whopping 40 points this weekend.
For Scott Deroue, the first race on Saturday afternoon ended in the gravel, while he finished second in the second race. The Dutch rider led for the first half of the race, followed by his teammates Lennox Lehmann and Leo Rammerstorfer. But when Lehmann crashed behind him, the Kawasakis—Marvin Siebdrath, Jorke Erwig, and Troy Beinlich (Roto-Store BRT)—saw their chance and put pressure on the two KTMs. Siebdrath took the lead, and from then on, the top five riders traded positions back and forth. “At least second place, even though the weekend didn’t go well and I couldn’t find my rhythm in the second race either,” Deroue summed up disappointedly afterward.
Jorke Erwig (Kawasaki Weber Motos Racing), on the other hand, had every reason to celebrate. The Kawasaki rider was visibly happy with his third-place finish. “The weekend started off well for me right from the start, but in qualifying and the first race, I couldn’t keep up with the pace of the leaders,” said the 16-year-old. His plan to stay with the leading group for as long as possible today paid off and resulted in a podium finish.
Yesterday’s runner-up, Leo Rammerstorfer (Freudenberg KTM – Paligo Racing), finished in fourth place, followed by Germany’s Troy Beinlich, who had already crossed the finish line in fifth place yesterday. It was a good result for the 19-year-old from Pößneck, who, by his own admission, did not feel at all comfortable at the Lausitzring.
Michel-Casper Wieth (Yamaha bLU cRU IDM by Kiefer Racing) made a successful debut in the IDM. After moving from the Yamaha bLU cRU Cup to Supersport , the German rider shone in both races with top-10 finishes.
In just two weeks, on May 21 and 22, the IDM will continue with exciting head-to-head battles on the racetrack in all classes. Once again, all races this weekend will be broadcast live and free of charge via the IDM stream.
