With twelve new riders on the grid, there’s a breath of fresh air in the Supersport Class 300 of the International German Motorcycle Championship (IDM). This was also evident in the qualifying sessions at the season opener at the Lausitzring, where Scott Deroue (Freudenberg KTM – PALIGO RACING) set the fastest lap and secured pole position.
The Dutchman is no stranger to the scene, however. In 2017, the now 26-year-old competed in the then-new Supersport-300 World Championship, where he immediately made a name for himself as a top rider. This made his retirement ahead of the 2021 season all the more surprising. A year later, the Saxon team Freudenberg signed the Dutch rider to help develop the new RC390R, and as part of that effort, he will also compete in the SSP 300 races.
In the second qualifying session, Deroue positioned himself right behind his teammate Lennox Lehmann. Seizing the right moment, he used the slipstream to pass the 2021 champion and set the fastest lap. “The track isn’t exactly easy for me, since the last time I raced here was five years ago and it’s very undulating. But in the second qualifying session, I felt better than I did this morning and used slipstream and a tailwind to set the perfect lap,” Deroue said afterward. Lehmann had no counterattack left up his sleeve. “I’m still satisfied, though, because I can ride fast and have a good feeling about the race. Everything else will just have to play out,” said Lehmann. He’ll start from second position. Behind him, another KTM rider from the Freudenberg team secured a strong position. Austrian Leo Rammerstorfer, a close friend of Lehmann’s, will start the race from third place.
Marvin Siebdrath (Füsport – RT Motorsports by SKM – Kawasaki) secured fourth place on the fastest Kawasaki. The 2021 runner-up is considered the clear favorite to win the title this year. Behind him are Jorke Erwig (Füsport – RT Motorsports by SKM – Kawasaki), Troy Beinlich (Roto-Store BRT), Thom Molenaar (Molenaar Racing), Ferre Fleerackers (B.art Racing Team), and Max Zachmann in ninth place—five more Kawasakis. Marcel Blersch (Racing Team UpperSwabia) rounds out the top 10 on a KTM.
The first race of the " Supersport " 300 will take place this Saturday at 4:30 p.m., and the second on Sunday at 2:05 p.m. All races will be broadcast live for free at www.idm.de/live
