There have been a lot of rumors lately about the future of the Bonovo Action by MGM Racing Team. As things stand, the team made its final appearance at Hockenheim. Marc Moser earned 16 championship points for the team in the Superbike class during the season finale and will go down in history as the ninth-place finisher overall in the premier class for 2021.
Patrick Hobelsberger, the 600cc class champion, secured a one-two finish at Hockenheim to cap off the season. He is now heading back to the Supersport. The 25-year-old from Bavaria took off from Munich on a flight to Faro earlier today. The next World Championship round will take place in Portugal this coming weekend. Hobelsberger has a wild card and will race at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve in Portimão under the Bonovo Action by MGM Racing banner. Next year, he will have a full-season rider contract. Where exactly is not yet certain, but he has offers.
The situation is different for Marc Moser. His season-opening victory on the Yamaha YZF-R1M at Oschersleben, his pole position at Most, and a third-place finish at Assen are still fresh in everyone’s memory, but his future remains uncertain.
The final decision on the future of the IDM team still depends on team owner Michael Galinski’s Superbike World Championship project, Axel Adickes notes, but the trend points toward withdrawal. Adickes has been a mechanic on the team since 2010; for the past three years, he has served as team manager. But the Cuxhaven native, whose day job is as a paramedic, also wants to say goodbye—for personal reasons. “We’ve had some highlights,” he reflects. “Matej Smrz, Jörg Teuchert, Gareth Jones, Didier Vankeymeulen, Loris Baz, Damian Cudlin, Florian, and Marc Moser have all raced for us. With Jonas Folger, we won the IDM Superbike 1000 last year, and just recently, we clinched the Supersport with Patrick Hobelsberger. We can close the door with a clear conscience.”
