Micky Winkler (Kawasaki Weber-Motos Racing) set his perfect lap at the last minute. He will start from pole position in both Sunday races in the IDM Supersport 300 at the Red Bull Ring. The Schleiz native had already demonstrated during free practice that the circuit in Spielberg suits him and his Kawasaki. “Everything came together in my favor on the final lap. I was able to carry the momentum from the penultimate lap well and rode flawlessly,” explained the 19-year-old, for whom this is his first pole position in the IDM.
Standing next to him on the starting grid is Marvin Siebdrath (Füsport-RT Motorsports by SKM-Kawasaki). The 17-year-old posted consistent lap times in both qualifying sessions and benefited from his teammates, whom he used to draft. “Here in Spielberg, drafting is very important, and I was able to use it effectively to boost my speed,” said Siebdrath. His only concern is the weather forecast for Sunday. Rain is predicted. “On a wet track, I lose the feel for the bike. Then it becomes difficult to keep up in the race,” said the Kawasaki rider, who currently sits in second place in the overall standings.
Behind Siebdrath, Lennox Lehmann (Freudenberg KTM WorldSSP Team) secured third place. In his quest for a fast lap time, the championship leader made particular use of his KTM’s strengths. “During practice, I noticed that at times I didn’t have to brake until 30 meters later than the Kawasakis,” said Lehmann. That worked in his favor. Teammates Dirk Geiger and Luca De Vleeschauwer (Füsport-RT Motorsports by SKM-Kawasaki) will start from the second row. Guest rider and World Championship competitor Victor Steeman (Freudenberg KTM WorldSSP Team) secured sixth position.
The races will take place tomorrow at 1:15 p.m. and 4:50 p.m. and will be streamed at www.idm.de/live.
