IDM SSP 300: Booth-Amos Wins Thrilling Race

It was the kind of race that winner Tom Booth-Amos loves best: thrilling, chaotic, and unpredictable right up to the final lap. Text: Rowena Hinzmann, Photo: Dino Eisele

For Tom Booth-Amos, it was exactly the kind of race he had hoped for: plenty of action at the front, thrilling duels, and close overtaking maneuvers. He was anything but alone at the front. “The race was great, and it was fun to battle with my rivals,” said the World Championship rider, who had intended to use the race weekend at the TT Circuit Assen solely for testing purposes and therefore competed as a guest rider. “I think my teammates were able to take a lot away from this weekend,” he summed up.

Marvin Siebdrath (Füsport-RT Motorsports by SKM-Kawasaki/17) crossed the finish line in second place. He pushed himself and his bike to the limit, but also benefited from Dirk Geiger’s crash on the final lap: the 19-year-old from the Freudenberg KTM WorldSSP Team was knocked out of the race by a braking error from guest rider Oliver Svendsen. “That was the toughest race I’ve ever ridden,” said the 17-year-old in the Parc Fermé. Siebdrath had tried to latch onto the leaders Booth-Amos and Geiger after the start, but fell back each time due to overtaking maneuvers within the leading group. But he kept his cool and fought his way back to the front time and again. “You only get a race like this once a season,” he said with certainty.

Micky Winkler (Kawasaki Weber-Motos Racing/19) also fought his way through and finished in third place. This marks another valuable podium finish for the 19-year-old, who had already secured a spot on the podium at the last IDM race weekend on his home track in Schleiz. “It was complete chaos today and incredibly exciting,” reported Winkler, who was simply glad to have made it through the race unscathed. He added: “But it gives us an extra dose of motivation to know that we’re not far off the pace in the World Championship.”

Walid Khan (Freudenberg KTM WorldSSP Team/21) finished in fourth place. The KTM rider started the race from 13th position and worked his way up through the leading group—which at times consisted of 11 riders—to the front. He was followed by Germany’s Toni Erhard (Roto-Store BRT/20), Luca De Vleeschauwer (Freudenberg KTM WorldSSP Team/18), Twan Smits (Apreco/17), Leo Rammerstorfer (Freudenberg KTM WorldSSP Team/17), and Troy Beinlich (Roto-Store BRT/18) crossed the finish line one after another. Hungarian Balazs Suranyi (Hungarian Racing Engineering Team/15) rounded out the top 10.

Like his teammate Geiger, Lennox Lehmann was unable to add to his points total. Midway through the race, he lost control of his front wheel and crashed into the gravel trap.
