Preparations for the 86th edition of the International Schleiz Triangle Race are in full swing. The natural race track is currently being readied for this iconic event of the International German Motorcycle Championship (IDM). Troy Beinlich, who races for Team Roto Store BRT on a Kawasaki in the IDM Supersport 300 class, is also picking up a shovel and rake. For the 18-year-old from Pößneck, the IDM round from July 23 to 25, 2021, is a special challenge.
For Beinlich, this weekend’s event is his home race. And he’s been asked about it quite a few times already. “The race director also told me that he wants to see me and Micky Winkler at the front of our class. There is definitely some pressure, even though he also said at the same time that our main priority is not to crash. But it’s true that for me, this is the main event on the IDM calendar, and there are expectations,” says Beinlich.
"I'm really looking forward to the event, if only because of the large crowd," says the automotive mechatronics apprentice. "Plus, all my sponsors will be there. That's really something special."
Now, on the weekend before the race, the local MSC Schleizer Dreieck club cleaned the gravel beds, among other things. “We pulled out the weeds and collected broken glass. In some places, it was pretty bad,” said Beinlich, who is a member of the MSC. “We found six bottle necks in the gravel bed—the caps were still on them. So, naturally, the rest had to be somewhere. We kept raking until we found the rest of the bottles.” For Beinlich, who lives 20 minutes away in Pößneck, participating in the cleanup was a given: “Everything has to be in order for the IDM, and potential hazards must be eliminated.” Plus: Anyone who helps out gets a free ticket for the weekend. Troy Beinlich is, of course, happy to take that as well.
In the IDM Supersport 300 races, he aims to compete among the front-runners this time around. He has been cycling a lot with his brother Christoph to stay in shape during the summer break. He has also been training in Most, Czech Republic. In the IDM Supersport 300, Beinlich is currently eighth overall. His rival Micky Winkler, who lives right in Schleiz and rides a Kawasaki like Beinlich, is seventh overall. Beinlich has start number 11, Winkler has 86.
