Together, they are stronger. In 2021, Troy Beinlich and Toni Erhard will be competing for the Beinlich Racing Team. After a year full of setbacks, the 18-year-old from Pößneck, Thuringia, and the 20-year-old from Schwarzenberg, Saxony, are starting fresh in the IDM Supersport 300. Their goal: to return to their former glory. New to the team is sponsor Roto Store. Thanks to this partnership, the team will officially be called the Roto Store Beinlich Racing Team.
With Toni Erhard joining as a new rider, the 2018 champion is bolstering the team. After that triumph, the winning streak came to an end. He finished last season in eleventh place in the junior class. Instead of the KTM used in recent years, a Kawasaki Ninja 400 will now provide a fresh start in the battle for IDM points. “We’re building a new bike for Toni,” says team boss Knut Beinlich. His son Troy, on the other hand, will ride the familiar model he’s been using since 2019—albeit with upgraded electronics. During the team’s only appearance in 2020 at the Lausitzring, Knut Beinlich had to watch as his son, limited by outdated technology, was unable to achieve the top times that had been routine just a year earlier. The Kawasaki must therefore be overhauled by the start of the season.
“Actually, Troy is also scheduled to have the pin removed from his right lower leg by then,” Knut Beinlich reveals the next steps. The teenager had taken a rather unspectacular fall in 2019 during the Stoppelcross—which was intended to serve as training for an IDM race—but the consequences were significant. His leg was stabilized with a fixator, and Beinlich initially had to get around in a wheelchair. The Kawasaki rider would have been fit again for the 2020 season, but budget constraints allowed only the aforementioned race at the Lausitzring. But now the Beinlich Racing Team is back in the IDM in full force. Chris Beinlich is also back in the saddle. The 25-year-old will compete in the IDM Supersport 600 class on a Yamaha.
