Registration for the IDM has begun. It remains to be seen whether Kevin Wahr will submit his entry form. Although the 31-year-old Yamaha guest rider won both races in the IDM Supersport class at the 2020 Hockenheim finale, the chances are slim.
He has already come clean with the boss of the Dutch MVR team, for which he most recently competed. “I told Mart van Roj that he should plan without me,” says Kevin Wahr. Yet as recently as September 2020, the Yamaha rider from Nagold had celebrated a one-two finish in the IDM Supersport virtually out of the blue, making a convincing comeback at Hockenheim after a long absence. Nevertheless, Wahr is pondering: “I don’t know if I can manage a full season—or even if I want to. There’s a time issue. I work in our family business and have a family of my own. My daughter is nine months old. When I have free time, there are other things I’d rather do than invest in racing.”
Yet a hint of indecision still comes through. The 2013 Supersport admits grudgingly: “The idea isn’t completely off the table, but racing a full season is unrealistic.”
