The German Endurance Racing Team #56 (GERT56) will not only be entering the IDM Superbike 1000 series with Toni Finsterbusch in the 2021 season, but will now also be adding Lucy Glöckner to its lineup. The 30-year-old from Saxony will roll out of the pits on a BMW M 1000 RR, just like her teammate Toni Finsterbusch, after a two-year hiatus from the IDM.

Glöckner has been a fixture on Team GERT56 for some time now and has competed in Superstock races in the FIM Endurance World Championship with the team. Her greatest success: victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. “Together with my teammates Stefan Kerschbaumer and Toni Finsterbusch, I became the first woman ever to stand on the top step of the podium. For me, it was a dream come true,” says Glöckner.

A lot has happened since she retired from the IDM Superbike 1000 two years ago. That included the adventure of competing in the legendary Pikes Peak hill climb. Pikes Peak is a 4,301-meter-high mountain in the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains in the U.S. state of Colorado. In 2018, Glöckner completed the 19.99-kilometer course—featuring 156 turns spread across 1,438 meters of elevation gain—in a time of 10:21:932 minutes. The title “Rookie of the Year” was hers for the taking. The following year, Glöckner put on a spectacular show: she returned to Germany with the runner-up title and a time of 9:58:878 minutes.

But now it’s back to the IDM. In the Superbike class, she’s scored points in the top ten in the past. What happens now? “I’ve fallen in love with endurance racing over the last few years, but I still have a few scores to settle in the IDM. When team boss Karsten Wolf shared his thoughts with us about switching from the endurance scene to the IDM, I was naturally immediately on board. I’m a bit out of practice with sprint races, but I’ll get back into the swing of things,” Glöckner says with fighting spirit.
