The contract has been signed. Wilbers-BMW and Florian Alt will continue their partnership in the IDM Superbike 1000 series in 2021. On February 16, the team will travel to Spain for two weeks to conduct test runs with the S 1000 RR.
“We’re definitely thrilled to have Florian back with us,” says team boss Benny Wilbers. Alt and the experienced technical director Burkhard Stember work together like father and son. Stember is constantly working on development, while 24-year-old Alt contributes his ideas. “At least in terms of age,” Wilbers adds with a laugh.
In the 2020 season, a scheduling conflict between the IDM finale at Hockenheim and the World Endurance Championship at Estoril, Portugal, prevented the team from achieving an even better overall result. Since he had to fulfill his World Championship commitments, Alt was absent from Hockenheim and ultimately finished fourth in the IDM. “In 2021, the IDM takes priority,” Wilbers and Stember make clear.
