Now the 2020 season has also come to an end for IDM Superbike 1000 champion Jonas Folger. The 27-year-old Yamaha rider from Team Bonovo action powered by MGM Racing has completed his second and final guest appearance in the Superbike World Championship. The WorldSBK is now also heading into its winter break. At the season finale on the technically demanding circuit in Estoril, Portugal, Folger showed with two 11th-place finishes in the two main races that he is ready to make the leap to the World Championship.

In the IDM Superbike 1000, Folger won every race of the 2020 season on a Yamaha. However, the Bavarian rider was not considered when rider spots were being allocated for the Superbike World Championship. Instead, BMW expressed interest during discussions held in connection with his international races. As things stand now, the details of Folger’s WorldSBK debut with the Bonovo action team powered by MGM—with factory support—are being finalized. “We’ve already gotten the go-ahead from Bonovo boss Jürgen Röder and MGM,” Folger reveals, “and things are looking good with BMW as well. We’ll all sit down together again next week and take it from there.”

Until then, the Bavarian is taking a break. Right now, he’s still on his way back from Portugal in his van, with a trailer attached.
