The rainy fall weather in Hockenheim is preventing any further improvements in lap times in the junior class. Title favorite Rick Dunnik (18, NL, Zuwi HD-Racing) on a Yamaha retains the pole position and will thus have a clear view at the start of both final races. The Dutch rider, who leads the championship by 15 points, set his fastest lap time of 1:37.972 minutes yesterday during the first qualifying session. Marvin Siebdrath (16, Wildenfels) on a Kawasaki follows 0.167 seconds behind.
Rounding out the front row is his teammate Colin Velthuizen (16, NL, both RT Motorsports by SKM-Kawasaki), who is fourth in the championship.
Colin Velthuizen set the fastest time in the wet practice session with a lap of 1:57.36 minutes. Riding his Kawasaki, he was 0.497 seconds faster than guest rider Sasha de Vits (18, B, Dv1 Racing Campus) on a Yamaha. Velthuizen’s teammate Luca de Vleeschauwer (18, B, both RT Motorsports by SKM-Kawasaki) followed in third place.
Dominik Blersch (21, Uttenweiler, Upperswabia Racing Team) delivered his strongest performance of the season on his KTM. The strong showing by the runner-up in the 2019 ADAC Junior Cup bodes well for the two races to be held tomorrow.
However, Dominik Blersch will have to start the race from the sixth row after qualifying 16th. That will be a long way back to make up for the top German rider in the rain during the 15-lap race on the 3.692-kilometer track. In wet practice, he was faster than pole sitter Rick Dunnik, who is the fifth-fastest in the rain, trailing Velthuizen by over two seconds.
The second starting row for tomorrow’s two races is led by Luca de Vleeschauwer, the third-fastest driver on Rob Vennegoor and Frank Krekeler’s team. Rick Dunnik’s closest rival in the championship standings was 0.691 seconds behind his compatriot in qualifying. Following de Vleeschauwer are his teammate Harry Khouri (16, AUS, Benjan Racing Team) on a Kawasaki and Ruben Bijman (16, NL, Pearle Gebben Racing) on a Yamaha.
The fastest KTM riders are only able to place behind Melvin van der Voort (15, NL, Team SWPN) on a Yamaha. Junior World Championship rider Dirk Geiger (18, Mannheim) is ahead of Lennox Lehmann (14, Dresden, both Freudenberg SMC WorldSSP Academy) on KTM after the first qualifying session. The IDM junior class is also showing a very close field in the final. The top nine riders are separated by less than a second.
The first race of the IDM Supersport will take place tomorrow (Sept. 26) starting at 12:15 p.m.
