The rainy autumn weather in Hockenheim has prevented any further improvements in lap times in the junior class. Title favorite Rick Dunnik (18, NL, Zuwi HD-Racing) on a Yamaha retains pole position and will thus have a clear view at the start of both final races. The Dutchman, who leads the championship by 15 points, set his fastest lap time of 1:37.972 minutes yesterday in the first qualifying session. Marvin Siebdrath (16, Wildenfels) on a Kawasaki follows 0.167 seconds behind.
Rounding out the front row is his teammate Colin Velthuizen (16, NL, both RT Motorsports by SKM-Kawasaki), who is fourth in the championship.
Colin Velthuizen set the fastest time in the wet practice session with a lap of 1:57.36 minutes. On his Kawasaki, he was 0.497 seconds faster than guest rider Sasha de Vits (18, B, Dv1 Racing Campus) on a Yamaha. Velthuizen’s teammate Luca de Vleeschauwer (18, B, both RT Motorsports by SKM-Kawasaki) follows in third place.
Dominik Blersch (21, Uttenweiler, Upperswabia Racing Team) delivered his strongest performance of the season on his KTM. The strong showing by the 2019 ADAC Junior Cup runner-up bodes well for the two races taking place tomorrow.
However, Dominik Blersch will have to start the race from the sixth row after qualifying 16th. That will be a long way to go for the top German rider in the rain during the 15-lap race on the 3.692-kilometer track. He was faster in wet practice than pole sitter Rick Dunnik, who is fifth fastest in the rain, over two seconds behind Velthuizen.
The second row of the grid for tomorrow’s two races will be led by Luca de Vleeschauwer, the third-fastest driver on Rob Vennegoor and Frank Krekeler’s team. Rick Dunnik’s closest rival in the championship standings finished 0.691 seconds behind his compatriot in qualifying. Following de Vleeschauwer are his brand-mate Harry Khouri (16, AUS, Benjan Racing Team) on a Kawasaki and Ruben Bijman (16, NL, Pearle Gebben Racing) on a Yamaha.
Only behind Melvin van der Voort (15, NL, Team SWPN) on a Yamaha do the fastest KTM riders manage to place. Junior World Championship rider Dirk Geiger (18, Mannheim) sits ahead of Lennox Lehmann (14, Dresden, both Freudenberg SMC WorldSSP Academy) on KTM after the first qualifying session. The IDM junior class also showed a high level of competitiveness in the final. The top nine riders were separated by less than a second.
The first race of the IDM Supersport 300 will take place tomorrow (September 26) starting at 12:15 p.m.
