Rick Dunnik (18, NL, Zuwi HD-Racing) on a Yamaha refuses to be dethroned. In the second qualifying session, none of his 36 rivals in the IDM Supersport 300 managed to beat the fastest time set the previous day. With a time of 1:53.097 minutes, last year’s runner-up secured pole position for both races at the Lausitzring. The Dutchman already shone here last year. Behind guest rider Koen Meuffels on a KTM, he finished second in both races during his IDM debut.
“I just love this track,” says pole-sitter Dunnik. “The hard braking and the long corners suit me best.” For Dunnik, the goal this weekend is to make up for lost ground in the championship. He struggled at the Sachsenring and had to settle for 7th and 8th place. In the championship standings, he slipped to third place, behind Harry Khouri (16, AUS, Benjan Racing Team) on a Kawasaki and his compatriot Melvin van der Voort (15, NL, Team SWPN) on a Yamaha.
Australian Khouri will start from fifth place on the second row.
Assen winner van der Voort will start from seventh place on the third row. “I injured my neck and a heel in my crash at the Sachsenring,” says the 15-year-old Dutchman. “The pain is still quite severe, and I don’t know how much it will affect my concentration in the two races.”
Guest rider Chris Stange (Heidenau, Freudenberg SMC WorldSSP Team) on a KTM was unable to improve his time in the second qualifying session and dropped to third place. However, the World Championship rider from Michael and Carsten Freudenberg’s team will have a clear view of the first corner at the Lausitzring from the front row at the start.
The first race of the IDM Supersport 300 will take place today (Sept. 12) at 4:50 p.m. The second race will follow tomorrow (Sept. 13) at 1:55 p.m.
