Khouri enters the penultimate corner at the Lausitzring in a tight pack of eight riders. He makes contact with an opponent and ends up in the gravel trap. This means the two-time winner of the season comes away empty-handed for the second time this year. This crash costs the strong Australian the championship.
Luca de Vleeschauwer is all the happier for it. The Belgian started from eleventh position. “The track is completely new to me, and qualifying didn’t go well at all,” said the 18-year-old Kawasaki rider. “But after the start, I pushed as hard as I could. I managed to pull off one passing move after another.”
With a victory that even surprised him, the 18-year-old has taken the lead in the IDM junior class. He now leads by six points over Harry Khouri and Rick Dunnik on Yamaha.
Dunnik (18, NL, Zuwi-HDRacing) was unable to convert his pole position into a race win. He lost four places on the opening lap alone. In the end, he had to settle for fifth place. In the championship standings, the tenacious Dutchman remains in third place heading into the second race of the weekend.
Sachsenring winner Marvin Siebdrath (16, Wildenfels, RT Motorsports by SKM-Kawasaki) has suffered a setback: following a crash, he finished second to last. Melvin van der Voort (15, NL, Team SWPN) on Yamaha also lost valuable ground in the championship due to a crash. The rider who led after the IDM opener has now dropped to fourth place. Lennox Lehmann is now trailing him by just six points. The youngster from the Freudenberg team is now the top German in the championship.
The second race will start tomorrow (September 13) at 1:55 p.m.
