Eight-time Sidecar World Champion and defending IDM titleholder Tim Reeves will start from second position in both races at the Lausitzring. Markus Schlosser held on to the provisional pole position he secured in the first qualifying session. Although Reeves briefly set a faster lap time in the second qualifying session, Schlosser immediately countered. Five minutes before the end of the session, the Swiss rider finally shut off the engine of his LCR Yamaha sidecar. “It’s possible that Reeves might set another fast lap,” he said, glancing at the timing monitor, “but we’re done for now. We can’t keep up with the big teams. We don’t have the money to change tires multiple times. We just have to live with that.” Schlosser remained in first place nonetheless.
With the exception of Pekka Päivärinta, Michael Grabmüller, Franz Kapeller, and Markus Schwegler, all of the top ten sidecar teams improved their lap times in the second qualifying session. This cost Päivärinta and Josef Sattler one place each. Bennie Streuer was literally the flying Dutchman, passing both teams. He will start from third place. The first race will take place today at 6:15 p.m.
In the 1000 cc class, the outcome was also quickly decided. Mike Roscher didn’t give the competition a chance.
Mike Roscher clearly dominated the 1000 cc class, finishing ahead of Helmut Lingen and Franz Kapeller. Roscher was about four seconds faster per lap than his competitors.
