In 2017, Jan-Ole Jähnig (19, Nobitz, Freudenberg KTM Junior Team) became the first champion in the then-new IDM Supersport 300 class. This year, the Thuringian rider initially competed in his third season in the World Championship on his KTM. However, his team decided to skip the events in the Spanish COVID-19 risk areas of Aragon and Catalonia (Barcelona) due to current quarantine regulations. Instead, the 2019 Supersport 300 World Championship eighth-place finisher is now competing as a permanently registered rider in the IDM Superstock 600.
Riding a Yamaha, Jähnig will compete in the same race as his teammate Max Enderlein (23, Hohenstein-Ernstthal, Freudenberg SMC WorldSSP Academy). But while Enderlein is fighting for his third consecutive title in the IDM Supersport 600 class, Jähnig wants to get a taste of 600cc racing in the production-based Superstock category.
His World Championship teammate Max Kappler (23, Oberlungwitz, Freudenberg KTM WorldSSP Team), on the other hand, is making a guest start on the KTM in the highly competitive IDM Supersport 300. There he will face, among others, his three teammates Lennox Lehmann (14, Dresden), Lennard Göttlich (15, Eibau), and Yann Netzker (18, Calau, all from the Freudenberg WorldSSP Academy).
