Gleich zu Beginn des zweiten Laufes in der IDM Supersport 600 überschlugen sich auf dem TT Circuit in Assen die Ereignisse. Rookie Victor Steeman (Yamaha), der das Auftaktrennen am Samstag gewann, schien den Gegnern erneut nach einem souveränen Start zu enteilen. Doch unter dem Druck von Max Enderlein (Yamaha) und Glenn van Straalen (Kawasaki) stürzte er in der zweiten Runde aus dem Geschehen.
Since Enderlein and van Straalen were now busy battling each other, Luca Grünwald (Kawasaki) and Sander Kroeze (Yamaha) caught up with the duo, turning the group into a quartet. Van Straalen took the lead, and the battle intensified on the final lap. “Nothing was coming from behind,” grinned van Straalen, the only one at the front. But Max Enderlein had to open up a gap in the final corner due to attacks from Grünwald and Kroeze. Kroeze then squeezed past Grünwald as well. As a result, Enderlein dropped from P2 to P4, and Kroeze raced back to the front.
Martin Vugrinec (Yamaha) was also expected to play a key role in the title race. But after crashing through no fault of his own on Saturday, Sunday didn’t bring a happy outcome for the Croatian either. For him, the race was over before it had really begun. On the second lap, race officials announced that the rider, who had been in fourth place up to that point, had jumped the start. The infraction was penalized with a drive-through penalty through the pit lane. After serving the penalty, the Croatian rejoined the race in last place at the back of the field. However, Vugrinec had been too fast during the drive-through. As a result, he had to repeat the procedure. He could now write off any hope of perhaps still securing a points-scoring finish with a comeback.
